Two Townhouses with historic connections, Caroline Street Balmain
OIKOS Architects were commissioned to design and document the construction of two adjoining townhouses on a site that complied with Council subdivision requirements. The site had originally been part of the Waterview House Estate, the site of the oldest house in Balmain. This required extensive research, a Heritage Impact Statement, and an archaeological survey to record what was part of the remaining old cellar of Waterview House.
The two townhouses were built over extensive basements, allowing the installation of car lifts for added parking on the tight site. The Council opposed the development, but the Land & Environment Court approved it with minimal changes required.
